Tourist Tips

Over the years, we’ve had a number of questions from families coming from abroad looking for fun, outdoor skating-related activities in the area! Learn more about Nordic ice skating on this page. Here are our tips to skate in our part of the country:

❄️ In the case of below-zero temperatures:

  • Natural ice skating in Nacka – this is a webpage managed by our municipality, as their staff keeps reports of the bodies of water in Nacka, to be sure that they’re safe for people to skate on during the winter. They also plow portions of them to clear off the snow, to make it more accessible. Bastusjön is a small, simple option while Järlasjön is larger, but therefore takes longer to freeze.
  • Natural ice skating in Stockholm – this is a webpage maintained by the city of Stockholm showing the bodies of water around the downtown area that they plow for skating during the winter.

☀️ In the case of warmer weather:

  • The outdoor rink at Kungsträdgården – the most famous skating spot downtown! I’ve attached a picture of this rink. Especially beautiful when it’s dark out, as they have lots of lovely lights around. The ice can be very torn up after many people have skated, but it’s still a lovely spot to check out.
  • Zinkensdamm’s outdoor rink – a very large surface, made for bandy. Located on the island of Södermalm, in downtown Stockholm.
  • Östermalm’s outdoor rink – a very large surface, made for bandy. Located in Östermalm, in downtown Stockholm.
